Urdu Poetry:- It is a rich tradition of poetry and has many different forms.
Forms of Urdu Poetry:-
- GHAZAL:-is a set of two liner couplets, which strictly should end with the same rhyme and should be within one of the predefined meters of Ghazals. Couplets may or may not have same thought. It is important to think about the topic as well as the theme of a Ghazal before starting to write it. The first line of the Ghazal must include a refrain, which is a word or a phrase that can be easily fitted into the other couplets. Each couplet of a Ghazal is known as sher.
- HAMD:- is a poem in praise of Allah. The word "hamd" is derived from the Quran, its English translation is "Praise".
- MANQABAT:- Sufi devotional poem, in praise of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the son of Muhammad(saws) or of any sufi saint.
- NAZM:- Urdu nazm is a major part of Urdu poetry.
- Maqta:- Last sher/Couplet of a Ghazal
- Matla:- First sher/couplet of a Ghazal.
- Mavra/Mohavra:- Collection of poems written in free style.
- Qaafiya:- Rhyming pattern of words that must directly precede the Ghazal's Radif.
"Kaese lahraun fizaon mei haath mere"
"Kahin chhutth na jae galti se haath tumhara"
Example:-Here Qaafiya is 'Nikle','Mile'
"Abhi bhi nishaan aansu ke aastin se nikle na honge
Ya to kameez dhule na honge ya fir mile na honge"
- Radif:-The second line of all the couplets must end with the same words.
Abhi bhi nishaan aansu ke aastin se nikle na honge
Ya to kameez dhule na honge ya fir mile na honge.
- Takhallus:- Pen-name used in Shayari is called Takhallus.
Kheeche alag alag taraane bahaar ke
Mauke mile mausam se oose khush-gavaar ke
Sawaal bann ke rah gaya zehen ke Mustafiz
Aate kahan se chehre par chamak 'Gulzar' ke.
